The mission of Rowing on Whidbey is to introduce, provide access to, and coach sweep rowing and sculling to the youth of the community and adult rowers. In pursuit of its mission, the club strives to support participants in the attainment of their rowing goals, from recreation to the highest level of competition.
Our coaches have experience at many levels and are as eager to teach people how to row as they are to train teams for regional competitions.
Currently we are rowing at Monroe Landing Beach on Penn Cove, and from Flintstone Park in Oak Harbor, tide and weather permitting.
We are currently seeking a place to store and launch our boats. Oak Harbor along the beach or at the marina are suitable, as are various locations along Penn Cove. If you know of a location near the water that can be fenced and made secure for storage, please contact us.
We have the opportunity to purchase a trailer and 3 or 4 shells from a local club. We are taking donations to assist us in building a suitable fleet for the youth to row with in Fall 2018.
We have two Pocock 8+'s, a Pocock 4+, a wherry 4+, and two wherry 2x (a double sculling boat). They are undergoing some minor repairs. We will announce here and on our Facebook page when we are ready to launch them.
Rowing is known as the best full body workout.
We are planning a learn to sweep camp at the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle on Portage Bay. Please contact us if you are interested in attending. The camp will be in March or April.
When can you get your youth involved?
We are planning on offering a demonstration day in the spring, and a summer camp for youth, with the goal of starting the youth program in Fall 2018.
We will publish dates of our training sessions, camps, and other events.
